Roisin Hyde, Occupational Therapist at Richmond Rehabilitation Unit, has secured a place on the prestigious National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Developing Research Leaders Programme.

The programme is designed to cultivate the next generation of healthcare research leaders. Major clinical research initiatives are traditionally centred within large acute teaching hospitals, and Roisin’s success highlights the rising importance of researching health outcomes directly within community and home environments.

Roisin said: "To me, being involved in research means opportunity to improve patient outcomes, clinical knowledge, and ways of working on a grander scale than working 1:1 with patients.  The NIHR Developing Research Leader Programme will give me protected time to build research leadership skills, and support colleagues across the Trust to get more involved in research with the right support and resources. Continuing to work as a clinician is important to me, as research needs to work in the real world – this programme balances a research role with working clinically, which really appealed to me."
