Alfie needs an X-ray.

Having an X-ray is like having your photograph taken, but an X-ray shows the inside of your body instead of the outside. It does not hurt.

Alfie goes to Kingston Hospital Radiology Department to have the X-ray.

Alfie gives his name to the receptionist.

He sits in the waiting area until we call his name.

The radiographer calls Alfie into the X-ray room. The radiographer is the medical expert who takes the X-ray.

Alfie might need to change into a hospital gown, depending on which part of his body is being X-rayed.

We help Alfie get into the correct position for the X-ray.

Alfie might have to lie down on a bed, or he might have to stand up.

We move the X-ray camera into the correct position.

Alfie must keep still while we take the X-ray.

Alfie hears a buzz noise and a beep noise when the X-ray camera is working.

The radiographer tells Alfie when the X-ray is finished. Then Alfie can leave the X-ray room.

Alfie can go home now.
