About Futura splints

Futura splint

The Futura splint aims to restrict wrist movement and give wrist support. It allows you to use your thumb and fingers.

Wearing it

  • We will fit your splint for you, and show you how to put it on and take it off. It is for your own use only.
  • You should be able to move all your fingers when you are wearing it.
  • It should not cause you to feel uncomfortable.

Cleaning it

  • Remove your splint before you wash it.
  • Use lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Leave it to air dry.

Risks

  • The main risk of wearing a Futura splint is the development of pressure areas on your skin where the splint rests.
  • There may be some red marking of your skin when you take the splint off. This is normal. The marks should disappear within about 30 minutes.
  • Check your skin at least once a day, especially if you feel numbness or tingling in the affected limb.

When to seek medical help

If you experience any of the symptoms listed below in the affected wrist, take your splint off and try keeping your arm raised for 10 minutes.

Symptoms to look out for:

  • an increase in swelling
  • a change in colour, or blueness
  • pins and needles
  • numbness or loss of feeling
  • a burning, or stabbing feeling
  • more severe or more frequent pain
  • the fingers of your injured limb are colder than the healthy limb
  • difficulty moving your fingers
  • the splint feels too tight or too loose and does not provide enough support.

If raising your arm does not help

If any of these symptoms continue after raising your arm for 10 minutes, get in touch with us (see Contacts below) or contact 111 online, or ring 111.
