Your appointment

Allow up to 5 hours for your appointment.

Your test will take place in Kingston Hospital Main Outpatients, Level 4, Corridor E, Diabetes Day Unit.

Preparing for your test

Read this information carefully before your appointment.

From mignight.png Do not eat or drink after midnight on the night before your test.  You can have sips of water.

Medications

If you take:

oral oestrogens (such as the oral contraceptive pill containing oestrogen or oral hormone replacement therapy)

Stop taking these 6 weeks before your test.

If you take or use:

  • hydrocortisone tablets or any other steroids (for example, prednisolone or dexamethasone).

 

Do not take your morning dose on the day of your test.

Bring all your usual medications with you to the appointment. You will need to take them during the test.

During the test

You can expect the following during your test.

  • We will ask you to lie on a bed while we insert a small plastic tube (a cannula) into a vein in your arm. This allows us to take blood samples.
  • After we have taken the first blood sample, we will ask you to take your usual morning dose of hydrocortisone.
  • We will take further blood samples 4 hours after you have taken your hydrocortisone.
