About the medicine lockers

When you take a prescription to Boots Pharmacy at Kingston Hospital you may be given the option of collecting your medication later from the medicine lockers.

Benefits for you:

  • You can collect your medication any time, when it suits you, day or night.
  • You do not have to wait at the hospital while we check your prescription and get your medication ready.
  • Somebody else can collect your medication for you.
  • The lockers store the medication safely and securely.

How to use the lockers

You will need a smartphone to use the lockers.

What you need to do

  • Give your mobile phone number to Boots pharmacy when you hand in your prescription.
  • When your medication is in the locker and ready to be collected, Boots will send you a text message with a link to the locker website. Go to the lockers within 72 hours (3 days) of getting this message.
  • When you get to the lockers, open the link on your smartphone.
  • Follow the instructions on the website. You will have to enter your date of birth and then swipe on screen to unlock the locker.
  • Remove everything from the locker before closing it. You will not be able to re-open the locker.

Parking

There is very limited parking at Kingston hospital during the day.

Between 8am and 8pm you can park in a hospital carpark for free for 20 minutes. Parking is free between 8pm and 8am.

When you cannot collect from a locker

Lockers are not suitable in all cases. They cannot be used:

  • if you do not have access to a smartphone
  • if the medication
    • is too large to fit in the locker
    • needs to be stored in a fridge or freezer
    • is a Controlled Drug that needs special storage
  • if your medications are complicated and you need further instructions.

If the lockers do not meet your needs, we will discuss alternative options with you.
