Our specialist Cancer and Palliative Care Social Worker supports people who have a cancer diagnosis with challenges related to their illness, including issues with finances, employment, relationships, or day-to-day routines.

About the service

Our Senior Social Worker Vicky Middleton is part of Kingston Hospital’s Palliative Care Team and Cancer Services, providing dedicated support to both inpatients and outpatients from the point of diagnosis through to end of life.

Vicky offers person-centred, holistic support, helping you talk through concerns related to your illness, treatment, and the impact these may have on your wellbeing and lifestyle.

Who can access support?

Social work support is available to:

  • any patient known to the hospital’s Palliative Care Team or Cancer Nurse Specialists
  • family members, partners, and carers involved in the patient’s care

  • Information on welfare benefits, financial help, and practical support
  • Advice regarding employment, housing, and statutory services
  • Guidance on accessing grants or charitable support

Emotional and social support

  • A safe space to discuss worries or concerns
  • Support during hospital treatment or inpatient stays
  • Advocacy to help you express your needs and preferences

Coordination and liaison

  • Signposting to local services
  • Referrals to external agencies and voluntary organisations
  • Working in partnership with your wider healthcare team
