About hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy involves exercising in warm water for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation means restoring or improving your functional abilities after an injury, illness, or surgery.
A hydrotherapy pool is a warm water pool in which people can exercise. It is not used for swimming.
The warmth of the water usually helps with pain and it can make it more comfortable to exercise.
Teddington Hydrotherapy Pool
Teddington Hydrotherapy Pool is on Vicarage Road, Teddington TW11 8EZ.
There are three ways to access a session at the pool:
- book an independent session
- join the Richmond Aqua Group
- be referred from Teddington Memorial Hospital MSK physiotherapy service.
Book a session
You can book a session to exercise on your own with no guidance. You must do this in advance.
To make a booking, you must print and fill out a screening form (called an indemnity form on the website) to confirm that hydrotherapy is suitable for you.
Your GP or physiotherapist will also need to sign the form, to confirm that they support your independent use of the pool on medical grounds.
If you are currently seeing a physiotherapist, ask them for advice on the most appropriate exercises for you to do in the hydrotherapy pool.
