Services at Kingston Hospital will be impacted by strike action taking place from 7am on Wednesday 17 December until 7am on Monday 22 December. Patients should continue to attend appointments as planned, unless they are told otherwise. It is important that people also continue to come forward for urgent care during the strike action, especially in an emergency and in life-threatening cases.

On 3 December, representatives from Kingston Council, the NHS, and the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector came together to officially launch the Kingston Compact - an important milestone for partnership working in the borough. The Kingston Compact is a shared agreement, which aims to strengthen collaboration and improve outcomes for local residents by supporting prevention, inclusion, and community wellbeing.

Findings from the Care Quality Commission’s National Maternity Survey 2025 have recognised the high level of care offered to those who choose Kingston Hospital for their maternity journey. The survey results are based on the experiences of 149 people who used Kingston Hospital’s maternity services and birthed their babies in February 2025.

Health and care partners in Kingston and Richmond have been recognised at the London Personalised Care Awards, hosted by the Coalition for Personalised Care. The Proactive Anticipatory Care (PAC) team received the Collaborative Working Award, for their contributions to supporting personalised care through the PAC service, which was originally launched as a pilot in 2021, and supports local people to be in control of their health and wellbeing.

Allied health professionals (AHPs) are key to patient care and are the third largest workforce in the NHS. If you are aged 16 or over and interested in a career in any of these areas, join us on Friday 13 February to meet some of our staff and learn more about allied health professional roles in the NHS. There will also be an opportunity to shadow some of our AHPs.

Kingston Hospital’s anaesthetics department has once again been awarded Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) by the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA). ACSA is a nationally recognised quality improvement programme that assesses anaesthetic departments against rigorous standards, covering every aspect of the surgical patient pathway. The process includes an external review of the service, inspections, and interviews with staff.

Jacqui Holmes, Operational Lead for Inpatient Physiotherapy at Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust, was recently invited to speak at the British Geriatrics Society (BGS) national conference, on the topic of reconditioning. The invitation followed her recognition as the 2024 BGS Rising Star for Clinical Quality, awarded for her work in developing the Eat, Drink, Dress, Move (EDDM) programme.

Following a successful quality improvement project led by Revd Sekai Katsande, Assistant Chaplain and Pastoral and Spiritual Specialist, and the submission of an abstract titled Embedding Pastoral and Spiritual Support in ICU - co-authored with ICU consultant, Dr Shao Chong - Trust staff were invited to present their work at the Annual Congress of the European Society for Intensive Care Medicine in Munich.

This year, the Maternity Unit at Kingston Hospital is celebrating its 30th year in its current setting. Staff recently marked the occasion with a baking competition, raising over £500 for Kingston Hospital Charity’s maternity fund, to support ongoing projects and improvements within the unit.

The Juliet O Foundation has partnered with Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust to provide care packages to elderly patients leaving hospital. Around 30 vulnerable patients each month will receive a free care package, including items such as toiletries, non-slip socks, and non-perishable food items, to take with them to their place of residence when they are discharged from Kingston Hospital or Teddington Memorial Hospital.

Patients under the care of Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust are now able to collect outpatient prescription medicines from new pharmacy collection lockers, which were unveiled at Kingston Hospital this week. Kingston Hospital is the first hospital in the UK to offer these lockers, which are managed by Boots, in partnership with Clix. The lockers provide a simple, safe and secure solution to make it easier for patients to pick up their prescription medicines.

This spring, we have been fortunate to welcome some additional volunteers to Kingston Hospital to help improve our outdoor spaces. Our own volunteer gardeners were joined by a team from Squire’s Garden Centres to revitalise several areas on site, including the staff nursery, main entrance, Garden of Reflection, Wolverton and memorial tree woodland, and the roof terrace attached to the Haematology Day Unit.

A PhD research study between Kingston University and Kingston Hospital, funded by Kingston Hospital Charity with the support of the Laurie Todd Foundation, is seeking to investigate HPV infection in non-cancerous tissues, as this could provide vital insights into early viral activity and its potential role in the first stages of cancer development.

Kingston Hospital’s Maternity Unit can now deliver bedside neonatal care for newborn babies that need resuscitation, with the arrival of two LifeStart trollies. Kingston Hospital Charity provided the funding for their purchase, after receiving a generous donation from Lifetimes Charity to buy one and from an individual supporter who provided the monies to buy the other in memory of his wife.

Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust is the first to host a new Women’s Health Hub model, as part of a new South West London (SWL) initiative to improve care and reduce waiting times. The Women’s Health Hub will focus on improving access to gynaecological, breast and sexual health services within GP practices and existing community healthcare settings across Kingston and Richmond, bringing care closer to patients’ homes.
