After the birth
We advise you to complete the course of any medicines prescribed to you after the birth of your baby.
We also advise you to continue taking the nutritional supplements which were recommended to you.
Physical and emotional support
Having a baby changes your body physically. It can also affect your emotional wellbeing. You can ask for help in different ways.
Physical support
Speak to your health visitor or GP if you have concerns about any of the following:
- wound healing
- pain
- bladder or bowel function
- vaginal function.
Emotional support
Talk to your health visitor or GP. They can refer you to a specialist if needed.
Future pregnancy
We recommend you plan any future pregnancy carefully.
It is a good idea to make sure your nutritional supplementation is as good as possible, 3 to 6 months before you start trying for a baby. We recommend daily multivitamin and mineral supplements.
Speak to your GP for advice on taking the following:
- iron
- vitamin D
- calcium
- folic acid (5 mg a day)
- vitamin B12 (if you had a gastric bypass).
