Your baby's cues

Before your baby learns to talk, they will communicate with you using their voice and movements. These are known as baby cues.

They relate to six infant behavioural states:

  • deep sleep
  • active sleep
  • drowsy
  • quiet alert
  • active awake
  • crying.

You can find information on your baby's cues (and how to respond to their crying) on the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne website by using the blue button below.
