What is a red bag for?

The red bag is for care home residents. The bag goes with them if they go into hospital. It is usually packed by the care home staff.

The bag is used to make sure vital information is available quickly. This improves communication and helps staff provide faster, safer care.

It is also used to keep belongings safe. This can reduce stress and confusion and give people the comfort, dignity and support they need.

What is in the red bag?

The red bag contains essential information and items people need in hospital, such as:

  • up-to-date medical and personal information
  • dentures, glasses and hearing aids
  • clothes (including nightwear)
  • toiletries.
