HyCoSy stands for 'hystero contrast sonography'. It is a test to find out if your fallopian tubes are open and your uterus is a normal size and shape.

Instructions

If you are still spotting or bleeding, the test cannot be done. We will rearrange it for another day.

You must not have sex starting from Day 1 of your period until the day of the procedure.

On the day of the test

There are no particular instructions about food before the test, but make sure you have had plenty to eat and drink.

When you arrive, we will ask you to provide a urine sample.

Do not bring anyone with you to the appointment, particularly children.

Bring with you:

  • bottle of water
  • pantyliner (feminine pad)
  • snacks
  • painkillers (any that you prefer, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen). We will ask you to take these 30 minutes before the procedure.
